What to know before you start
A bereavement cleanout means sorting and removing belongings after someone has passed away. Double D Estates helps Phoenix-area families with packing, keepsakes, donation and hauling. Start with the items that must stay and the person who will approve the work.
You can ask for help before everything is sorted
A house can hold decades of belongings. You do not need to make every decision before contacting Diane. Describe the spaces, your timing and the parts that feel difficult. A walkthrough helps separate careful sorting from the furniture and household items that are ready to leave.
If family members need more time with a room or collection, identify it before removal starts. The written scope should say what can be cleared and what must remain untouched.
Set aside personal items before removal
Begin with photographs, letters, identification, financial papers, jewelry and anything family members have asked to keep. Label those items or choose a separate room. When coordinating remotely, send photos with clear notes about pieces that must stay.
Double D's existing cleanout process includes setting aside keepsakes, documents and valuables. If something needs another decision, ask that it be held for review. A removal decision should not be based only on whether an item looks useful or valuable to someone else.
Agree on 1 contact and a clear scope
Choose the person who will approve the estimate and answer questions during the work. If several relatives are involved, resolve conflicting instructions before anything is hauled. Tell Diane who else needs photo updates.
Discuss packing, donation, hauling and any cleaning separately so the written estimate reflects the help you need. Confirm dates after the scope is understood. An estate cleanout is a physical service and does not determine who owns belongings or who has authority to dispose of them.
Plan the handover around your next step
The next step may be a family visit, a home sale or leaving the property empty. Tell Diane about that goal and any travel deadline. If you live elsewhere, Double D can discuss a video walkthrough and progress photos.
Review the agreed rooms, the belongings set aside and access arrangements at completion. Our preparation checklist gives you a room-by-room starting point. For remote coordination, use the out-of-state family guide.
